Conor Jackson to start in left field tonight

conorjackson61108.jpgThat’s right the Arizona Diamondbacks everyday first baseman, at least until today, Conor Jackson will start in left against the Mets. According to baseball-reference.com tonight will be only Jackson’s fourth start of his big league career in left. He started one game there in 2005 and two games there in 2007.

With Jackson starting in left and Tracy starting at first you have to wonder if their will be roster implications going forward. Could Chris Burke’s time be drawing to a close when Byrnes comes back? Will Byrnes’ injury keep him out longer than originally expected?

At the very least it’s an interesting way to get the bats of Jackson, Reynolds and Tracy into the lineup at the same time.

In the long run what’s the worst that can happen? A few errors occur in left (they seem to be happening everywhere else anyways)? If it can help the offense it’s worth the shot.
