It looked like the Arizona Diamondbacks were going to steal one from the New York Mets. Mark Reynolds clubbed a game-tying 3-run home run on a 3-2 pitch from Billy Wagner in the bottom of the 9th inning. The game went into extra innings, and ended in the 13th, when Carlos Beltran took Edgar Gonzalez deep giving the Mets a 5-3 win.
Reynolds, despite being the hero in the 9th, struck out 4 times on the night. The D-Backs struck out 15 times in the ballgame.
Brandon Webb, going for his major league-leading 12th win, left the game after only 5 innings and 58 pitches. Webb was struck by a line-drive off the bat of Carlos Delgado in the 4th inning. Webb returned, and made it through the 5th, but left after that.
The Mets broke a 5-game losing streak.
Here’s what others are saying about the Mets’ marathon win over the Diamondbacks…
The series concludes Thursday at Shea with Arizona’s Dan Haren (6-4, 3.44 ERA) facing the Mets’ Johan Santana (7-4, 3.08 ERA). First pitch is at 10:10 am Arizona time.
