Devils “brawl” has others scratching their heads too

Former NBA coach Eric Musselman can’t believe what he saw from the Arizona State baseball team yesterday either.

It appears from his blog, that Coach Musselman was unaware of the fact that the fight was staged. The explanation from the Arizona State clubhouse is that it was an attempt to loosen the team up. Unless the whole team was in on the “joke”, wouldn’t that have more of an adverse effect on the team’s psyche?

Just imagine freshman pitcher Matt Newman, fighting off butterflies in the pregame, even before the two best players on the team were rolling around in the grass. Yeah, that would have a calming effect on me too if I was about to make my 5th collegiate start in the biggest game of the year.

According to Dan Zeiger of the East Valley Tribune, this isn’t the first time ASU has tried this stunt.
