Chris Snyder belted a solo home run off of Pittsburgh reliever John Grabow leading off the 9th inning, to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 4-3 win against the Pirates at PNC Park.
The Diamondbacks led 3-0 after 1 inning, but the Pirates crept back into it, scoring a run in the 3rd on an RBI double by center fielder Nate McLouth. Pittsburgh made it 3-2 on a solo HR by Jason Bay in the 4th, and McLouth tied it at 3-3 in the 5th with another solo blast.
Snyder not only broke the tie game in the 9th, but preserved it with his defense as well. Pittsburgh’s Ryan Doumit led off the 9th vs. Brandon Lyon with a single. With one out, Snyder gunned down Luis Rivas, who pinch-ran for Doumit, trying to steal 2nd for the 2nd out of the inning. Jason Michaels flied out to left field to end the game.
Lyon’s save was his 14th on the season, and his 13th consecutive. Lyon hasn’t given up a run since April 6th.
