photo courtesy of azcardianls.comThe Arizona Cardinals signed Tight End Jerame Tuman and Defensive End Travis Laboy on Monday. Tuman was a former Pittsburgh Steelers TE, so Whisenhunt and his staff know what they are getting with this 9 year veteran. The Cardinals were in need of a blocking TE and that’s Tuman’s specialty.
Travis Laboy is a guy people are a little more familiar with. Laboy, according to Adam Schefter of the NFL network signed a 5 year $22 million deal. That’s $20 million less than the Jets signed Calvin Pace for. What that means I don’t know? But will see if Pace is $20 million better than Laboy. Travis had solid numbers for the Tennessee Titans last year recording 6 sacks. But the plan is for the Cardinals to move Travis to the OLB position replacing Darryl Blackstock and Calvin Pace. So will see if Laboy is able to adjust to the new position.
I personally was hoping Arizona would sign Antwan Odom but it appears the Cincinnati Bengals have signed him. I don’t see Laboy being the starter at OLB for the Cardinals so I hope Arizona goes after another OLB/DE in the draft. Travis seems to be a solid pick up to improve depth on defense but I wouldn’t rely on him being the full time starter. I can’t complain to much with this signing, it’s nice to see the Cardinals finally get something done.
