Suns come back to beat Cavs 103-92

ColangeloThe Suns bounced back from Friday’s dismal performance against the Lakers to beat the Cavs 103-92 on Jerry Colangelo Night at US Airways as the founder of the Suns was inducted into the Ring of Honor during halftime.

Phoenix (2-1) came back in the second half, outscoring Cleveland 31-19 in the 3rd quarter, behind Steve Nash’s 30 points, including 12 in the final quarter, and 10 assists. Boris Diaw who started in place of Amaré Stoudemire, out with soreness in his right knee, played 37 minutes, scoring 16 with 8 rebounds. Shawn Marion had his usual solid game (23 PTS, 12 R) playing over 45 minutes. It’s noteworthy the fact that Coach D’Antoni, evidently seeing his team in some sort of difficult situation, stayed with his starters most of the game, it was basically a 6-man rotation as Brian Skinner (the supposed back up to STAT) played the grand total of 13 minutes and Banks only 5. The Rookies have yet to play a minute in the NBA.

At this point of the season I would like to see more players involved, longer rotation, some contribution from the bench and I actually wouldn't mind a loss or two in the making. In the long run it could become crucial. We’ll see, as the Suns are playing 4 games in 5 days this week.

LeBron James scored 27, with 8 assists but on 11-26 shooting. The Cavs took advantage of Stoudemire's absence as both Ilglauskas and Gooden scored 22 and grabbed 27 rebounds between them. Diaw played a solid game but the Cavs’ frontcourt is too big for Boris to handle on an entire game. By the way Amaré is listed as day to day, we’ll see if he plays this week as the Suns go East for four games.

A much better performance by the Suns, at least in terms of intensity and result. Don't forget a win is still a win in this League and a good morale boost for the upcoming road trip. Phoenix will play in Charlotte and Atlanta on consecutive nights and again back to back in Florida at Miami and Orlando Friday and Sunday. This week will be a good indication of where the Suns stands right now as they try to get in shape quickly.

Yours truly, Steve Fan
