Could Jake Plummer Be Cards Savior?

Share

I can't believe I'm even typing this but desperate times call for desperate measures. With Matt Leinart out and the paper thin Kurt Warner sidelined with an elbow injury the Cards had to rely on three day back up and part time high school quarterbacks coach Tim Rattay against the Carolina Panthers.

Just when Arizona fans started to believe in coach Whis and the chances of seeing the big red in the playoffs one fumble and Julius Peppers changed the complexion of the season from that of a beauty queen to that of a pimple faced high schooler. Not that we should be surprised, the Cardinals seem to find new ways to make seasons interesting year in and year out. But the season is not over yet. With the Cards sitting at 3-3 and tied for the NFC West lead with the Seahawks there is still hope. The only way that hope stays alive though is if the Cards pick up a true starting quarterback and there is one out there…..

Jake Plummer. That's right it's time to consider bringing Jake the Snake back home, or to the scene of many many bad interceptions depending on how you look at it. Plummer is currently the property of the Tampa Bay Bucs but for a late round pick, or JJ Arrington (I know they are about the same right now), he could probably be had. The question is would Jake want to come out of retirement to be Arizona's savior? I think the answer would be yes.

Jake had probably his best moments in his career in Arizona between the Cards playoff run and his time at ASU. Plus he probably doesn't want his career to end as a backup to some 23 year old kid who had no experience. It's a chance for the Snake to lead one more great comeback in the desert. To take the Cards from the brink of disaster and a 4 or 5 win season back to the playoffs.

The fans in all likelihood would welcome Jake back with open arms, honestly wouldn't you if Tim Rattay is your only other true option. Forget the behind the back passes for interceptions and the complaining and the really bad mountain man beard, all can be forgiven if Jake can come in and be a half way decent quarterback and get the ball more than five yards down the field to Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.

There are two problems though, 1) The trading deadline in the NFL is tomorrow and 2) Jake is owed $5.3 million. For most teams these wouldn't be a huge problems but this is the Arizona Cardinals and the man at the top doesn't like to open the wallet. If the Bidwill's wanted to win this season and make the playoffs they need to make a big splash right now to sure up the QB position. Jake Plummer is that big splash. Lets hope we can get our number 16 Cards jerseys out of the mothballs for this Sunday.

(Wow I can't believe I got that all out without laughing once. It's scary just how desperate we are for a winner.)
