Team Offensive Line Rankings

Levi Brown hopes to bolster Cards O-line

This is part 5 of a 9 part series I will be giving my analysis on. ESPN.com is ranking the NFL teams 1-32 at nine positions. I'd love to talk about every team and their rankings according to ESPN but my main focus is on the Arizona Cardinals, Today's position is Offensive Line.

The Cardinals offensive line was ranked 27th in the NFL by Scouts Inc. I can’t be too mad about that considering the running game for the Cardinals has been at the bottom of the NFL the last couple seasons. A lot of the issues with the O-line in the past years was the blocking scheme, to be honest I don’t even think they had one at times. New offensive line coach Russ Grimm will be changing that this year. I’m very confident that Grimm will turn this O-line from the bottom of theleague to at least the middle of the pack this year. When tackle Oliver Ross was working under Grimm in Pittsburgh Ross looked like an all pro. But when Ross came to Arizona it was like he never played before. A lot of that has to do with the Russ Grimm being a great coach, and Arizona having a terrible blocking scheme.

Along with an upgrade at the O-line coaching positions there was an upgrade in the player personal as well. Arizona added tackle Mike Gandy, center Al Johnson, and first round pick Levi Brown. The only real lost the Cardinals had this off season was Leonard Davis. Davis was too expensive to keep and was playing out of position anyways, he should only be playing guard.

The O-line is shaping up like this… Mike Gandy at LT, Reggie Wells at LG, Al Johnson at C, Deuce Lutui at RG, either Levi Brown or Oliver Ross at RT. This O-line may not be the renowned “Hogs” offensive line that Grimm was part of but they still look good. I really like Lutui and Wells at the guards, they’re big guys that work hard. Al Johnson and Mike Gandy are wild cards but I still feel will be an upgrade from Nick Lecky and Leonard Davis. The O-line doesn’t have to be great, just good. All they have to do is give a few holes for Edge to run threw and a few seconds for Leinart to pass and this team will be playoff bound.
