Woopity woop woop ding! The Suns score Grant Hill and now have assured themselves a place in history…..well let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. But this is huge. Grant Hill brings the much needed bench/starter reserve role that the Suns needed. Case and point - game 5 of the Spurs v. Suns series. With Hill, the Suns close out that game. In any event, here is the good news:
Hill was offered the Suns’ biennial exception, which will pay him $1.83 million in the coming season and give him a player option to return at $1.97 million for 2008-09. Coming off a seven-year, $92 million contract with Orlando, money was not his biggest lure to Phoenix.
When I first heard of Grant Hill to the Suns rumor a few weeks ago, I was skeptical. He’s 35, doesn’t exactly have a stellar health background, and by and large could have another injury plagued season. However, when you really sit back and think about it, his injuy’s in the past could save his 35 year old legs this upcoming season. He had a fantastic 06-07 and in a less intensive role with the Suns can make a huge impact. Wether he comes off the bench or starts, Grant Hill, is an A+ signing for the Suns.
Hill was drawn by the chance to be on a title contender and an important playing role on a team that fits the 6-foot-8 swingman’s versatile style. Hill, who will turn 35 in October, could start for Phoenix with Steve Nash, Raja Bell, Shawn Marion and Amaré Stoudemire.
